In 1912, the Mayor of Tokyo gave those Japanese cherry trees to Washington DC. You can find them all around the Tidal Basin and the National Mall. They usually bloom in the beginning of April but this years it was really special. Indeed, it has been really warm in February, then very cold again, and finally warm as it should be in the spring; so the blooming was disturbed. A lot died and the others started to bloom earlier than usual.
But, they were beautiful anyway; and the nice thing is that there is the Cherry Blossom Festival on the Mall, with concerts, performances and food, which brings some animation. 🙂 Here are some pictures of the trees during three different days so enjoy! ❤
En 1912, le maire de Tokyo a offert ces Cerisiers du Japon à la ville de Washington DC. Vous les trouverez autour du Tidal Basin et sur le National Mall. Normalement, ils fleurissent début avril mais cette année c’était un peu spécial. Comme il a fait très chaud en février, ensuite très froid et chaud de nouveau, la fleuraison a été perturbée. Beaucoup de bourgeons sont morts et le reste fleuri plus tôt que d’habitude. Mais, même avec ça, c’était magnifique ; et ce qui est chouette c’est qu’il y a le Cherry Blossom Festival sur le Mall, avec des concerts, performances et à manger, ce qui amène un peu d’animation. 🙂 Voilà quelques photos prises pendant trois différents jours, enjoy ! ❤
